"How dare you say that a man forgets more quickly than a woman, that his love is the first to fade? I have loved no one but you." - Jane Austen, Persuasion
Persuasion is Jane Austen's last fully completed novel. It was published at the end of 1817, six months after her death. Persuasion has been adapted numerous times, including four television adaptations, as well as stage productions, radio broadcasts, and other literary works.
The story concerns Anne Elliot, a twenty-seven-year-old Englishwoman whose family is trying to cut costs and reduce debt by renting out their house to an admiral and his wife. The wife's brother, Captain Frederick Wentworth, was engaged to Anne eight years earlier, but the engagement was broken off when Anne was "persuaded" by her friends and family to end the relationship. Anne and Captain Wentworth, both single and unattached, meet again after a long separation, leading to many humorous encounters as well as a second, carefully considered chance at love and marriage for Anne in her second bloom.
A classic of English literature that deserves a place in every good library.
